Classical Guitar Lessons AT BMF
Richard Kolb is a well established performer on guitar and lute family instruments, including classical and baroque guitar, renaissance and baroque lute, and theorbo. He has performed as a soloist and with a wide range of ensembles throughout North America and Europe, and has recorded numerous critically acclaimed CD’s. In over thirty years of teaching guitar he has developed effective strategies for developing solid technique and musicianship that apply to all styles of music, guided by thorough awareness of the physiology of the hands and body.
Kolb has performed throughout North America and Europe as a soloist and with a wide range of Baroque and Renaissance ensembles, including Opera Atelier, New York City Opera, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Chicago Opera Theater, Waverly Consort, Handel & Haydn Society, Concert Royal, and Pegasus.
Since completing a Ph.D. in musicology at Case-Western Reserve University in 2010, Kolb has combined performing with scholarship, specializing in early modern vocal chamber music. He completed the first modern edition of the works of Barbara Strozzi, in eight volumes published by Cor Donato Editions (2014-19), and his edition of Francesca Caccini's Primo libro delle musiche has just been released. Kolb teaches lute and theorbo at Bard College and is Scholar in Residence ßfor the New York Continuo Collective. He has held teaching positions at the University of Toronto, the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto), and Case-Western University.
